Connecting Seas – Inclusion of People with Disabilities through Water Sport
Through the Connecting Seas mobility project, ASD Sport Compass promotes the transformative power of sport, particularly adaptive water sports such as surfing and sailing, as a tool for inclusion, mental well-being, and empowerment of people with disabilities. By combining sport, non-formal education, and innovative coaching approaches, Connecting Seas aims to support sport organisations in creating more accessible, inclusive, and sustainable opportunities for participation.
People with disabilities often face barriers to accessing sport activities, limiting opportunities for social interaction, physical activity, and personal development. Recognising the importance of inclusive sport environments, ASD Sport Compass is committed to sharing expertise and strengthening international cooperation to develop new approaches that connect sport, education, and social inclusion. Connecting Seas is guided by three core objectives:
1. Expanding Inclusive Opportunities through Adaptive Water Sports:
The project aims to diversify LOUD Art Inclusion’s programmes by integrating adapted water sports activities, such as surfing and sailing, into its inclusive initiatives for people with disabilities. Through these activities, Connecting Seas promotes physical and mental well-being, social interaction, and active participation in sport.
2. Strengthening Sport Staff Competences through Innovative Educational Approaches:
Connecting Seas enhances the skills of LOUD coaches, staff, and volunteers by introducing Educational Through Sport (ETS) methodologies, adapted coaching techniques, and innovative tools to support mental health, resilience, and empowerment of people with disabilities.
3. Developing a Replicable Model for Inclusive and Sustainable Water Sports:
Through job shadowing and cooperation with ASD Sport Compass, the project strengthens LOUD Art Inclusion’s organisational capacity by providing new knowledge, practical experience, and good practices for the development of inclusive and sustainable water sport programmes that can be adapted and replicated in different contexts.
Join us in making sport accessible to all, as a bridge that connects people, strengthens communities, and creates lasting opportunities for inclusion, well-being, and cooperation.
