Connection between culture, the sea, and identity
On July 24, 2025, over 70 participants gathered at the G. Tomasiello Prison Memory Museum in Sardinia for the event “Navigating for Sustainability,” organized by ASD Sports Compass and Mine Vaganti NGO. The hybrid format combined in-person attendance with live Zoom streaming, bringing together environmental action and maritime education. International partners from Croatia and the Netherlands, involved in the Erasmus+ project “Sail 4 Sustainability,” shared experiences on using sailing to promote sustainability and social inclusion. During the event, several European and Italian-funded projects focused on coastal protection were presented. Participants gained insight into how these initiatives contribute to a broader system of environmental stewardship. A key moment was the hands-on sailing experience from Alghero to Parco di Porto Conte. Young participants learned sustainability principles while directly engaging with the marine environment. This was followed by a beach cleaning activity involving all attendees. The activity reinforced a shared sense of responsibility for protecting coastal areas. Overall, the event demonstrated how international collaboration and maritime activities can effectively support sustainability.
On May 10–11, 2025, Alghero participated in the 29th Monumenti Aperti, showcasing its historical and cultural sites. A highlight was a guided maritime heritage tour by the Accademia della Vela Latina, with ASD Sport Compass proudly involved. The initiative strengthened collaboration focused on culture, education, inclusion, and the preservation of Alghero’s maritime heritage and environment.

Sail 4 Sustainability - International Training

A two-day “Sailing for Sustainability” training workshop will take place in the Netherlands. The pilot workshop will bring together four young participants, one coach and one organizational representative from each partner country. It will serve as a valuable opportunity to launch the initiative,gain insights, make improvements, and prepare for the future expansion.
Stakeholder Engagement Events
As part of the Sail4Sustainability Project, a series of stakeholder engagement events were organized in Sardinia, Italy, to raise awareness and share progress on this dynamic Erasmus+ initiative. These gatherings provided multiple opportunities to communicate the project’s goals, activities, and early results with local stakeholders, community leaders, and youth organizations. Through workshops, presentations, and interactive discussions, participants explored how sailing can be a powerful tool to teach sustainability, promote social inclusion, and build life skills among young people. The events showcased key project outputs such as the sustainable sailing toolkit, training programs, and digital resources designed to empower both youth and sports coaches. Stakeholders also contributed valuable insights, helping to strengthen cooperation and build networks across sectors. These engagements marked an important step in spreading the project’s impact locally while reinforcing the shared commitment to environmental awareness, youth capacity-building, and inclusive sports education across Europe.
NATIONAL PILOTING EVENT
On 11th April 2025, ASD Sport Compass hosted the National Piloting Event, an online workshop promoting sustainable sailing practices aligned with the UN SDGs. Participants explored the Train the Trainer program, tested the Sail4Sustainability platform, and discussed solutions for marine pollution, emissions reduction, and inclusivity in sailing. Thank you to all attendees for helping shape a greener, more accessible future for the sport!

ASDSC Event Alghero - Beach Clean UP!
The Sail4Sustainability project by ASD Sport Compass took place at Spiaggia Lido di Alghero, with participants meeting in front of Maracaibo Cocktail Bar at 17:30. The initiative invited people to join a growing movement focused on promoting sustainable practices within the European sailing community. It aimed to connect sailing with environmental awareness and encourage positive action for the protection of seas and coastal ecosystems.

Ci stiamo concentrando su due aree critiche:
1. Identificazione e valutazione dei bisogni: 1. Identificazione e valutazione dei bisogni: Cerchiamo di capire le esigenze specifiche di coloro che sono coinvolti nella navigazione sostenibile, esplorando la loro consapevolezza e le loro pratiche in materia di navigazione ecologica.
2. Mappatura delle migliori pratiche: Il nostro obiettivo è quello di raccogliere e condividere le pratiche sostenibili efficaci dei nostri Paesi partner, favorendo un ambiente di apprendimento e adattamento.
Panoramica sulla metodologia
Our approach includes:
1. Desk Research: Un'analisi completa dei metodi di navigazione sostenibili esistenti getterà le basi per le discussioni dei focus group.
2. Discussioni di gruppo (focus group): Queste discussioni saranno condotte in italiano e sono essenziali per coinvolgere direttamente la comunità velica e raccogliere prospettive e approfondimenti diversi.
L'importanza dei gruppi focus
I focus group ci permettono di raccogliere preziose informazioni qualitative, offrendo una piattaforma per un dialogo aperto e ricco. Questa interazione è fondamentale per scoprire nuove idee e approfondire la nostra comprensione delle pratiche sostenibili nella vela.
